How Small-scale Technology Certificates may work for your system

Eligible small-scale solar and battery systems may create Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme. The final arrangement depends on the system, the program rules and the agreement you make with your installer or retailer.

You may assign the right to create STCs, or discuss the direct pathway, where available.

Cheaper Home Batteries Program

The Australian Government states that households, businesses and community organisations may receive a discount of around 30% for a range of eligible small-scale battery systems from 5 kWh to 100 kWh. The support is subject to the applicable regulations and may change over time.

A reputable installer or retailer can explain the system design, the current support arrangement, expected warranty and the final contract. Bigger is not always better, so match battery capacity to your usage, solar output and inverter capability.

Do I need to apply for STCs myself?

Many consumers receive support through an installer or retailer. Depending on the arrangement, they may offer an upfront reduction or a rebate after installation. Consumers can also choose the direct REC Registry pathway in some circumstances, provided they do not assign the right to create STCs to an installer or retailer.

Will every system qualify?

No. Eligibility depends on the applicable program rules, the system and components, design and installation requirements, and other conditions. Solar Alliance cannot assess or guarantee eligibility.

How does the Cheaper Home Batteries Program work?

The Australian Government describes a discount of around 30% for a range of eligible small-scale battery systems from 5 kWh to 100 kWh, subject to the relevant regulations. The available support is based on usable capacity and eligible STCs, and can change over time.

Can I rely on an online estimate?
