Federal STC rebates and state incentives
Eligible small-scale solar and battery systems may create Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme. Some states and territories also run their own battery programs. Rules, values and dates change — confirm them on the official source and with an SAA-accredited installer.
What to check before you add a battery
A battery has to fit the existing or proposed solar array, the switchboard and the way you use power at home.
- Usable capacity and whether the unit is an approved component under the relevant program
- Inverter compatibility, backup circuits and export limits
- How the quote treats federal STCs and any state incentive
- Warranty, monitoring and who services the system after install

Questions we hear
- Will every home battery qualify for STCs?
- No. Eligibility depends on the system, approved components, installation and current program rules. Solar Alliance cannot assess or guarantee eligibility.
- Is a state battery scheme the same as federal STCs?
- No. Federal STCs sit under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme. A state or territory offer is a separate program with its own rules.
